Former Fire Station in Newcastle set to become Boutique Hotel.
Plans have been revealed for a new luxury hotel development at former fire station buildings in Newcastle.
Taras Properties has announced that it is seeking planning permission to bring forward a new boutique hotel development within the former fire station on Pilgrim Street in Newcastle.
The plans, which will be considered by the city’s planning committee later this week, will see the refurbishment of the Grade II listed building, creating a hotel of approximately 5,500 sq m with 60 bedrooms, and 3,850 sq ft of restaurant and bar space.
Submission of the plans follows a public consultation last year, and will also include new public realm improvements to the area.
Matt Verlander, planning & development director at Avison Young, commented: “This is an exciting project to bring forward a high-quality hotel and dining offer which isn’t currently provided within Newcastle city centre.
“The development forms part of the wider programme of regeneration on Pilgrim Street extending from the Swan House roundabout up to Northumberland Street.
“This scheme marks just one phase of the development including the Bank House office building where construction commenced on site in December 2020.
“Significant public realm improvements will also be undertaken to Pilgrim Street; with the proposals taking advantage of the former fire engine bays to create pavement café areas on both Pilgrim Street and the internal courtyard.
“The internal courtyard will be transformed into a high-quality landscaped area that will also be accessible to the public with the former hose tower the key feature and arrival point for the hotel.”
