The Hoppings Funfair Returns to Newcastle this Weekend
The Hoppings will open in Newcastle on Friday. The travelling funfair, which has more than 400 attractions, is held on the Town Moor every year in June.
Aerial images, captured by Chronicle Live, show a number of rides already in place, including the Big Wheel. Dozens of caravans are also parked up on the Town Moor, ahead of the opening weekend.
The Hoppings have said that “work is well underway” on the Town Moor as they get ready to welcome customers. It will take place between Friday, June 21 and Sunday, June 30.
Local people have already shared their excitement on social media. One person has commented on the officially Facebook page saying: “So excited me and my boyfriend are coming”.
Another person has posted: “So excited” while a third has said: “Can’t wait”.
The Hoppings was first established on the Town Moor in 1882 and attracts half a millions visitors a year. The annual funfair has over a kilometre of rides, attractions, food vans and stalls.
The 2024 event is being sponsored by the Freemen of Newcastle, Newcastle City Council, Hits Radio North East, Par Petroleum Ltd and Smart Outdoor.
