Amazon Pays Workers £50 Bonus a Week

Amazon Pays Gateshead & Durham Workers £50 Bonus a Week.
Amazon workers at two warehouses in the region will be paid a weekly bonus for full attendance, the retailer has said. The Northern Echo are reporting that workers at its Durham and Gateshead sites will be paid £50 a week for turning up to every shift, and turning up on time.

It comes just days after the online retailer revealed it would be paying a £1,000 joining bonus for new starters at the two sites.

Amazon has said the bonus, which is only being offered at a number of locations across the UK, has been introduced to support summer demand and prepare for Christmas. The bonus is set to be paid weekly and is based on 100 percent attendance for all scheduled shifts, excluding any absences under the Equality Act.

This will also exclude any absences as a result of Covid, including positive tests and self-isolation requirements.

An Amazon spokesperson said: “We are currently offering an attendance bonus at a number of locations to permanent associates to support our summer demand and help us prepare for the festive season ahead.”

Last month, Amazon said new starters at Durham and Gateshead would be paid a £1,000 bonus for joining before the third week of September.

In an advert for the role, it said workers are needed to help pick, pack and dispatch orders to customers, with pay starting at £10 an hour.

According to the job ads, Amazon was offering “immediate starts with no experience needed” for many of the warehouse roles.
