Two of the North East’s biggest retail businesses have come together in an ingenious partnership to launch a festive foodie sensation. Greggs and Fenwicks have joined forces to launch Bistro Greggs, a unique pop-up restaurant based at Fenwick’s Newcastle store which is opening for Christmas.
Business Live are reporting that the two firms have been transforming the space on the first floor into the bistro, where diners will enter through a pergola designed with Greggs’ lattice pastry pattern and be offered a fine dining experience of Greggs bakes and sweet treats with a twist.
The French-style restaurant will serve versions of Greggs’ favourite menu items, paired with Fenwick Food Hall wines and a signature cocktail created by its resident bar Mother Mercy at Fenwick Newcastle. The menu has been created by Fenwick executive head chef, Mark Reid, in collaboration with the food-on-the-go favourite.
The venue marks the first time the two Tyneside brands, which have a combined heritage of 225 years, have teamed up, but it’s not the first time they have been pictured together at Christmas.
In 2018 Greggs cheekily reflected the logo from its shop opposite the Northumberland Street store’s Fenwick Christmas window display, creating a huge reaction for both brands across social media.

Bistro Greggs will also serve High Tea for two, where guests can enjoy a three-tier sharing brunch with peach melba, yum yum bites paired with chocolate sauce and banana, alongside a Greggs croissant, pain au chocolat, plus a sausage roll and sausage, bean and cheese melt. Tables are available to book in advance as well as tables set aside for walk-ins.
Other highlights from the menu including duck-fat roasties, smoked pancetta, chestnuts and sprouts, alongside a Greggs steak bake served with truffled dauphinoise potatoes, green beans and almonds.
The breakfast and brunch treats include the Greggs Benedict – a version of a Greggs sausage, bean and cheese melt, with smoked ham, poached Cacklebean eggs and a Hollandaise sauce, while the Full English nods to Greggs’ best-selling sausage roll alongside bacon, mushroom, tomato, baked beans and a choice of eggs and it also comes as a vegetarian and vegan option.
