Hastings Electroplating and Metal Finishing

Hastings Electroplating and Metal Finishing

Hastings Metal Finishers provide a high quality electroplating and metal finishing service to the engineering industry. We offer a range of metal plating and cleaning services to meet our clients needs exactly and to greatly enhance the performance and appearance of their products. Our process offers flexibility enabling us to deliver high volume, fast turnaround, uniform and consistent solutions.

Hastings Metal Finishers was established in 1983 with the aim of providing an electroplating service of the highest quality to the engineering industry. The Company is run by Managing Director Paul Hastings, a Graduate Chemist who has over 30 years of surface engineering experience.

Electroplating & Metal Finishing
Electroplating is a type of metal finishing that uses an electrical current to deposit a thin layer of metal onto a surface. Metal finishing is a broad term that can include cleaning, polishing, and other surface treatments.

The Electroplating Process
>>> Pass an electrical current through a solution containing dissolved metal ions (the anode)
>>> Pass a negatively charged current through the object being plated (the cathode)
>>> The metal ions attach to the cathode, forming a layer of metal

Electroplating in Practice
>>> Corrosion protection: Electroplating can help protect against corrosion
>>> Wear resistance: Electroplating can increase the wear resistance of a surface
>>> Appearance: Electroplating can improve the appearance of a part
>>> Solderability: Electroplating can make a surface easier to solder
>>> Electrical conductivity: Electroplating can make a surface electrically conductive
>>> Thickness: Electroplating can be used to build up the thickness of undersized parts

What objects can be coated?
Generally, metal on metal finishing is required. This is due to the large number engineering benefits that electroplating can bring. However, non-metal objects can be made conductive using carbon paint that then allows it to be plated. Electroplating can be done with a variety of metals, including cadmium, copper, gold, nickel, silver, tin, and zinc.

Our current client base numbers over 200 Companies including leading organisations in the areas of precision and general engineering, metal fabrication, and electrical and electronic engineering.

We are ISO 9001:2015 approved for the provision of electroplating and related surface treatments amd provide a range of metal plating services including silver plating, tin plating, zinc plating and more – plus are recognised as leading professional electroplaters and metal finishers.
